Thierry Mugler

Thierry Mugler was born in Strasbourg in 1948 and founded his label in Paris in 1974. His work of the 1980s and 1990s is known for sharp shoulders, wasp waists, structured tailoring, vinyl, metal and a theatrical, futuristic glamour shown in spectacular runway presentations. The ready to wear closed in 2003, and the house was revived under Nicola Formichetti and later Casey Cadwallader. Thierry Mugler died in 2022.

The AKAIBU archive holds Thierry Mugler from the 1980s and 1990s, including Fall Winter 1995 and Spring Summer 1999, and a Fall Winter 2007 piece from the collaboration with Lafuma.
