Dirk Bikkembergs

Dirk Bikkembergs was born in 1959 and graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp in 1982 as one of the Antwerp Six. He started with footwear in 1985 and became known for heavy boots with laces running through the sole and heel, metal heel details and backlace designs. Menswear followed in 1987 and womenswear in 1993. In the 2000s the label moved towards football and sport references and was later sold.

The AKAIBU archive concentrates on the 1990s and early 2000s, with pieces from Fall Winter 1995, 1996 and 2001. It includes lace through and backlace boots, metal heel and velcro footwear, derbies and slippers, leather jackets, waistcoats, wool coats and pieces with zip and buckle details.
