Yohji Yamamoto was born in Tokyo in 1943 and founded his label in 1972. He showed in Paris from 1981, together with Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, and introduced oversized, asymmetric black garments that changed the idea of tailoring. The main lines are Yohji Yamamoto for women and Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme for men, alongside Y's, Y's for Men and the Y-3 collaboration with adidas that started in 2002.

The AKAIBU archive holds Yohji Yamamoto and Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme from the 1980s to the 2010s, with pieces from Fall Winter 1991, Spring Summer 1993, Spring Summer 2002, Fall Winter 2003, Fall Winter 2009, Fall Winter 2010 and Fall Winter 2013. It includes wool coats and blazers, leather jackets, knitwear, striped and floral shirts, raw hem pieces, patchwork, trousers and bags.

Yohji Yamamoto garments carry the line label and a production code on the inner label. We state the line and the season in each listing when it can be confirmed.
