Balenciaga

Balenciaga was founded by the Spanish couturier Cristóbal Balenciaga, who opened his Paris house in 1937 and closed it in 1968. The house was revived in the 1980s, and Nicolas Ghesquière was creative director from 1997 to 2012, followed by Alexander Wang from 2012 to 2015. Demna has led the house since 2015 and introduced the oversized tailoring, the exaggerated sneakers, the logo pieces and the streetwear language that define the current era. Pierpaolo Piccioli was named creative director in 2025.

The AKAIBU archive concentrates on the Demna years from Fall Winter 2016 to Fall Winter 2022, with the largest groups from Fall Winter 2021, Fall Winter 2022 and Fall Winter 2017. It includes oversized shirts and flannel, hoodies, bombers and jackets, denim, logo pieces, boots and a number of bags. A smaller group comes from the Nicolas Ghesquière era, including Spring Summer 2006. Several pieces are prototypes or samples, which is stated in the description.

Balenciaga garments carry the season code on the inner label, and the bags carry a serial tag. We check these on every piece before listing.
