Comme des Garçons

Comme des Garçons was founded in Tokyo by Rei Kawakubo in 1969 and showed in Paris from 1981. The black, asymmetric and deliberately unfinished garments of the early 1980s and the later collections built around volume, pattern cutting and reconstruction made the house one of the most important of the last decades. The company also runs Comme des Garçons Homme Plus, Homme, Shirt, Play and the lines of Junya Watanabe and other designers, as well as Dover Street Market.

The AKAIBU archive holds Comme des Garçons womenswear from 1986 to 2018, with pieces from Spring Summer 1999, Spring Summer 2000, Fall Winter 2001 and Fall Winter 2007. It includes reconstructed wool and velvet pieces, bustiers, sheer and pleated dresses, patchwork, knitwear, skirts, coats and jackets. The menswear of Comme des Garçons Homme Plus is listed in its own collection.

Comme des Garçons garments carry the line label with the season code, which starts with AD followed by the year of production. We state the line and the season in each listing when it can be confirmed.
