Maison Martin Margiela was founded in Paris in 1988 by the Belgian designer Martin Margiela together with Jenny Meirens and showed its first collection for Spring Summer 1989. The house became known for deconstruction, exposed seams, oversized proportions, painted garments and the blank white label with four white stitches. Martin Margiela left in 2009, and the label was renamed Maison Margiela in 2015 when John Galliano took over.

The numbered lines are part of the house system. Line 0 is Artisanal, the hand reworked pieces made from found garments and objects. Line 1 is the women's collection, Line 4 the women's wardrobe, Line 6 the garments for women that later became MM6, Line 10 the men's collection, Line 14 the men's wardrobe, Line 22 shoes and Line 11 accessories.

AKAIBU carries Maison Martin Margiela from the Martin Margiela era, focused on the 1990s and 2000s. Seasons range from Fall Winter 1994 to Spring Summer 2009 and include Artisanal, reconstructed and painted pieces, Miss Deanna knitwear, Line 1 and Line 6 womenswear, Line 10 menswear and Line 22 footwear.

A note on dating: the care label carries the season code. The year followed by 01 stands for Spring Summer, the year followed by 02 for Fall Winter. Together with the line number on the white label this places most pieces in a specific season.
