Roberto Cavalli was born in Florence in 1940 and founded his label in the early 1970s, starting with printed leather. The collections of the late 1990s and early 2000s, with animal prints, printed silk, embellished denim, corsetry and tulle, defined the glamorous side of the period and were worn by many of the celebrities of the time. The designer stepped back in 2015 and died in 2024, and the house continues under new leadership.

The AKAIBU archive concentrates on the years around 2000, with the largest group from Spring Summer 2001 and further pieces from Spring Summer 1999. It includes printed and layered tops, zebra, tiger and snakeskin prints, silk and tulle pieces, distressed and embellished denim, boned corsets and bustiers, dresses, knitwear and accessories.

Roberto Cavalli garments of this period carry the season on the inner label and are made in Italy. We state the season in each listing when it can be confirmed.
