Balmain was founded in Paris in 1945 by Pierre Balmain and was one of the great couture houses of the post war years. Christophe Decarnin was creative director from 2006 to 2011 and turned the house into a reference for rock inspired luxury: distressed and bleached denim, biker jeans with ribbed knees, military and embellished jackets, studded dresses and strong shoulders. Olivier Rousteing led the house from 2011 to 2025.

The AKAIBU archive concentrates on the Decarnin years and the first Rousteing seasons, from Spring Summer 2008 to Fall Winter 2014, with the largest groups from Spring Summer 2008, Spring Summer 2011 and Fall Winter 2011. It includes biker and distressed jeans, leather and suede pieces, embellished dresses, shirts and long sleeves, teddy jackets, military jackets and runway pieces.

Balmain garments of this period carry the season code on the inner label and are made in France or Italy. We check these details and the construction on every piece before listing.

Every piece in this collection is examined and authenticated in house in Vienna before it is listed. We ship worldwide with tracked delivery, and our showroom in Vienna can be visited by appointment. If you own Balmain pieces you would like to sell, see Consign with AKAIBU. If you are looking for a specific piece that is not listed, our Sourcing service can search for it.
