Maison Martin Margiela FW93 Frontless Knit

Maison Martin Margiela produced this frontless knit for Fall Winter 1993, cut like a conventional pullover but opened across the front so that collar, shoulders and sleeves frame whatever is worn underneath. The design belongs to the house's early Paris years, when Margiela was systematically dismantling garment conventions and exposing linings, seams and construction. Knitwear from this period was made by the Italian specialist Miss Deanna, whose pieces often carry handwritten label codes instead of standard sizing.
