Jean Paul Gaultier SS00 Basquiat Belted Denim

For Spring/Summer 2000, Jean Paul Gaultier put the paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat onto denim, running the artist's imagery across jeans, jackets and hats. This belted pair belongs to that series, its surface printed with reproductions of the painter's work. Basquiat's canvases had moved from New York street corners into galleries in the early 1980s, and Gaultier's prints arrived just over a decade after the artist's death in 1988.
