Maison Martin Margiela SS90 Darted Oversized Top Dress

Maison Martin Margiela presented Spring Summer 1990 in the autumn of 1989 on a disused children's playground at the edge of Paris. Kids from the neighbourhood drew the five hundred invitations and watched from the front row while models walked an uneven dirt ground instead of a runway. The season turned against the broad-shouldered excess of the 1980s: hems frayed, sleeves torn, white cotton darted and resewn. This oversized top dress belongs to that collection, its volume shaped through darting.
