Maison Martin Margiela FW93 Spider Web Hand Knit Blanket Cardigan

A hand knit cardigan from Maison Martin Margiela's Fall Winter 1993 collection, worked as an open spider web of yarn and scaled to blanket proportions. Margiela's knitwear of this era was produced with Miss Deanna, the Italian knitter behind many of the house's early experimental pieces. The web-like openwork belongs to the deconstruction the label pursued in its first Paris years, when garments were taken apart, inverted and rebuilt for the runway.
