The Artisanal line sat at the top of Maison Martin Margiela's numbering system, line 0, reserved for garments reworked by hand in the house's Paris atelier from found clothing and materials. This patchwork skirt dates to 2005, when Martin Margiela was still directing the house himself, before his departure in 2009. Because each Artisanal piece was assembled individually, no two are the same, and production numbers per season remained tiny.
