The 56-0174 is among the most recognizable eyewear designs Jean Paul Gaultier ever produced, manufactured in Japan in the early 1990s. Its double bridge is built around an exposed bolt and screw construction mounted between two triangular plates, and the temple length adjusts by turning the screw mechanism set into the triple bar arms. The frame became a fixture of 90s hip hop after Tupac Shakur wore it, and it has since turned up on Samuel L. Jackson, Ethan Hawke and A$AP Rocky. Gaultier based the shape on the classic panto silhouette.
