Martin Margiela led Hermes womenswear from 1997 to 2003, and this white cashmere coat comes from that tenure. Its kimono cut fits the logic of those collections, clothing built around ease of wear rather than display. Cashmere was a constant of the era at the maison, worked into double faced coats and even a floor length knitted gown. Margiela also introduced buttons with six holes at Hermes so they could be sewn to trace a discreet H.
