Maison Martin Margiela FW05 Backslit Fringed Skirt

A skirt from Maison Martin Margiela's Autumn Winter 2005 collection, a season in which the house played with the practical logic of clothing, extending a trench coat over the head to form a hood and wrapping accessories in black adhesive tape. The fringing and the slit cut into the back follow the label's long standing vocabulary of exposed construction and unfinished edges. It was made while Martin Margiela himself still led the design studio, four years before his departure from the house.
