Product Details

Kansai Yamamoto built his reputation in the 1970s and 80s on knitwear and stagewear of exactly this temperament, most famously the costumes he made for David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust years. This cardigan from the 1980s joins multicolor knit panels in a patched, modular construction, an approach that runs through the archive knitwear of his lines from that decade. Loud color blocking and mixed textures were constants of his work, rooted in the flamboyant Japanese aesthetic tradition he called basara.
