Eero Aarnio for Adelta Orange Pastil Chair 1967

Eero Aarnio sketched the Pastil in 1967 and carved its first model from a block of styrofoam in a matter of hours. The seat shares its diameter with the opening of his Ball Chair, is moulded in fiberglass and rocks on its rounded underside, light enough that the chair floats on water. A year later the design won the American Industrial Design Award. This orange example was made by Adelta, the German company that took over production of Aarnio's designs in the 1990s.
